Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends [듣기,반복재생]

너무나도 유명하고 사랑스러운 락밴드 그린데이(Green Day)의 Wake me up when september ends를 소개해 드리고자 합니다. 먼저 멤버부터 살펴보면 위 사진의 왼쪽부터 빌리 조 암스트롱(Billie Joe Armstrong), 마이크 던트(Mike Dirnt), 트레 쿨(Tre Cool)입니다.

Green day는 1991년 1집 앨범 'Smoothed Out Slappy Hour'로 데뷔하였습니다. 사실 이 그룹이 주목받기 시작한 계기는 American idiot라는 사회비판적인 노래때문인데요. 오늘 소개할 노래는 이 노래가 아니지만 너무나 유명한 노래이므로 한 번 들어보시기를 권합니다.

♧ 결성 배경

빌리 조 암스트롱은 한 때 재즈 음악가였던 아버지와 고교 중퇴자 어머니를 두고 있습니다. 10살 때 아버지를 여의고, 11살 때 버클리 근교에서 헤로인 중독인 어머니와 계부를 가진 동갑내기 베이시스트 마이크 던트를 만나게 됩니다. 둘은 음악적으로 Punk 밴드 Sex Pistols와 The Buzzococks에 빠져 급속도로 친해지게 됩니다. 이들은 빌리 조 암스트롱의 동생 애나 암스트롱을 영입하여 Sweet Children이라는 그룹을 만들었다가, 애나 암스트롱이 그룹에서 빠져나가면서 그룹명을 Green day로 변경합니다. 그리고 John Kiftmeyer(드러머) 탈퇴 후 마이크 던트(드러머)를 영입하면서 지금의 모습을 갖추게 됩니다.

보통 그린데이가 추구하는 음악은 네오펑크 또는 멜로코어입니다. 보통은 신나고 빠른스타일의 곡을 선호합니다. 하지만 제가 생각하기에 으뜸은 Wake me up when september ends 인데요. 처음 이 노래를 듣고, 그린데이가 펑크음악을 하는 그룹이라는 사실에 놀랬습니다. 그만큼 감성적인 노래이구요. 최근에 김병만의 정글의법칙 중간에 배경음악으로 나왔는데 제 기억을 새록새록 떠올리게 해서 소개해봅니다. 백번들어도 질리지 않는 곡 Wake me up when semtember ends입니다.

Green Day is an American rock trio formed in 1987.
The band has consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool for the majority of its existence. The band is credited as one of the two main bands, along with The offspring, who put the punk revival into process, though they have been described as a "sell out" band by notable members of the punk rock community.

Green Day was originally part of the punk secne at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. The band's early releases for independent record label Lookout! Records earned it a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label but Dookie became a breakout success and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the US. and 15 millon worldwide.

As a result, Green Day was widely credited, alongside fellow California punk bands The offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States.

Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dooke, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum, and gold status respectively.

Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling five million copies in the U.S. The band's eight studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, was released on May 15, 2009.
